The P5 Boards have approved a 3% producer saleable quota increase effective
November 1, 2016. This quota increase is in addition to the 1% quota increases
previously announced in each of the months of July, August, and September
This decision aims at increasing P5 milk production to completely fill all
current demand and rebuild butter stocks from 21,000 tonnes to the target
level of 30,000 tonnes by July 2017. In general, demand for dairy products
continues to grow between 3% and 4% annually.
P5 Quota Committee will continue to monitor market trends and production to
determine if any further adjustments are required.

Election - 2016 Candidates
Cattle Producers will be offering the continuation of the Safe Handling of
Cattle Program in 2016-17. The
objective of the program is to provide support to cattle producers for the
purchase of neck extending head gates, cattle squeezes and handling alleys,
crowding tubs and locking head gates (dairy installations). This
year the program also includes scales and scale heads. The use of this equipment has been proven
to reduce the stress levels of animals and well as increase the safety of the
handlers. Up to 40% of the purchase
cost will be provided for this equipment.

NSCP Levy to Increase January 1,
At the NSCP Annual General Meeting, members approved an amendment to the Nova
Scotia Cattle Producers Regulations to increase levy to $6.00. This change has
been approved by the NSCP and the Natural Products Marketing Council. Please note this change is effective
January 1, 2017, as part of several other changes. A copy of the new regulations can be found
