Announcement: DFNS is a Kaseya Ransomware victim

On Friday July 2, 2021, DFNS systems were attacked with a ransomware.  Kaseya, a software solution that is popular among information technology support companies which is used to diagnose and provide support to any company using computers and related technology was attacked.

DFNS’ IT support company based in Ontario uses Kaseya in providing its support services remotely.   Unfortunately, when the main software from the founding company was attacked it quickly spread to all users across the Globe.

We now know this is the largest cyber attack in history.  As such it has had immediate support from key government agencies to apprehend and combat the intruders.  The key suspect is a gang originating out of Russia known as REvil.  The attack is financially based, no data was exfiltrated in the attack.  More information:

What does this mean to my Farm?

We want to assure everyone that though we did get attacked, everyone’s data is secure.  Secondly, we will be back to full operation shortly.  Prior to the attack DFNS has had proper backup and security protocols in place.  The attack on our systems happened on Friday afternoon, and the support response was immediate.  We have since been recovering our data from backups and getting back to supporting Dairy Farmers.

Despite the incident, all our operational data has been collected with normal operations, it was not affected.  We can assure everyone our accuracy and processing are not affected.

Concerns

While we are recovering our systems, as a back up plan, there is a potential impact because our staff may not have enough time to process the data for the coming payment cycle on the 15th.  While we feel this is unlikely, we are preparing a Plan “B” to look at historic data paying out a similar calculated larger amount while we continue through the normal process and then reconcile the account with an additional final payment upon finalizing calculations or recover overpayment in the next payment cycle.  More details will be publicized as we approach the 15th.

Also please note, Milklinehas not been able to be updated, as a work around you can use MQM.  In reference to the Quota Exchange, the deadline will remain on Tuesday 13th of July, 2021.

More information will be sent out if that plan needs to be implemented, however as we progress back to normalcy you can expect payments as per normal.  We apologize for any inconvenience this creates, if you have any concerns feel free to contact Jake Vancuren, General Manager of DFNS at 902-957-5205.

The Staff at DFNS wish to thank everyone for their understanding as we recover and move forward with our day-to-day operations.
